If you are reading this you are thinking something about martial arts. Maybe you are interested for yourself. You might be thinking about what martial arts could do for your child. It also may be true you have heard of martial arts being a whole family adventure. Maybe you are part of a martial arts school near me and you are just curious what we think. Whatever you are thinking I am glad you are here.
Are you thinking about the benefits of martial arts?
While there’s so much about martial arts I want to say. so many incredible life-affirming benefits, and so much positivity I want to share, I thought I’d try and start small and see where that takes me.
Just a little,
Just a few things I feel are most important, at least for someone who is interested enough to read this. Because that, to me, shows an abiding interest, a curiosity that might be fed with my meager contribution to their knowledge about what the martial arts really is how it operates in a person’s life, and the gifts a person can receive from giving it a try and signing up for a class.
Confidence is Learned
One of the chief benefits, and one that I personally think is most misunderstood, is the element of confidence, and how people acquire it, why it’s essential to have as a characteristic, particularly for young people, but truly for anyone seeking it.
In general, there are a lot of misconception about the martial arts, and while many of those have been dispelled in recent decades because of its popularity and appeal, there are still quite a few still lurking about.
No matter what you are thinking…keep reading!
And one of those is the misconception that the martial arts is really just about self-defense and little else. Sure there are a lot of smiling faces in photo ops in all sorts of venues about the martial arts. Kids having fun and so on.
But people are missing the point.
Those kids and other adults around them are smiling and having fun not because they’re learning to fight or do this or that but because they’ve learned to acquire something more deeply and fundamentally important in their lives…
…CONFIDENCE.
They’re acquiring the confidence not only in themselves but in the notion that there’s more out there for them, available to them, more opportunity, more challenges that CAN be overcome.
And more life. More happiness.
And then, too, there’s COMMUNITY. And I believe this is such an important work and concept for people to understand as it pertains to the martial arts. People discover that they aren’t alone.
And that sense of aloneness is so impactful insofar as their level of confidence and ability to develop and discover it.
a person just can’t go it alone. No one can, no matter how rough or tough they are.
Nobody can go it alone.
Everyone needs help, needs friends, needs allies, and people they can rely on.
And that’s something freely available in the martial arts, and that is something that students take with them when they leave the class, is the knowledge of the value of community and how they can help spread that to the world around them, increase it, help make it grow.
And that just helps build a better world for everyone.
So I’m starting out by defining just precisely what confidence is, where it comes from, and how it develops. And then, we’ll begin to explore the important of how it affects our lives ad the lives of those we touch.
Confidence is simply the act of being convinced of your worth…..to learn more come try a class for FREE or find my book: CONFIDENCE IS LEARNED, which is exactly where what you just read was taken from.
