Can you tell me why professional athletes, from many sports, cross-train in martial arts?
Maybe not, if you have never trained in martial arts.
However, you have probably at least heard the word cross-training – and might have heard somewhere that martial arts training is commonly used by professional athletes to give them the fine tuning and conditioning they need to excel. The same valuable lessons that athletes have learned can also benefit YOU.
Let me explain…
Professional athletes, already elite in their prospective sports, use martial arts to refine skills, such as: balance, coordination, strength, and power. But what if you are just getting started in sports, in cross-training, or in life generally? The balanced form of exercise offered in martial arts training is outstanding for anyone at any level of their training and life!
Imagine a balanced exercise that conforms to your personal abilities to best produce results for you!
Martial arts training uses the right and left sides, upper and lower body, lateral movement, circular movement, rotational movement, concentration, reaction forces, equilibrium, breath-control, strength, flexibility, endurance, timing and hand and /or foot – eye coordination. If you, or your athlete, are looking to work on even just a few of these areas, you can probably see how it would be beneficial to train in martial arts!

Children, athletic or not, benefit by taking martial arts classes as they grow and develop. For those looking to continue and strengthen their primary sporting experience in baseball, basketball, gymnastics, dance, soccer, cheer, band, and even academic activities, the martial arts offer endless possibilities – especially with the fortitude and determination of the person and their support team. As a martial arts instructor, I don’t just “understand” when my students are engaged in other sports or activities, I strongly support it!
